It’s fall y’all!

And a couple of weeks ago we touched on all the amazing ways to celebrate this crisp season of lattes, sweaters, and beautiful leaves in our 20 things to do in autumn in Sarnia-Lambton

This week we want to help you plan your Thanksgiving Feast! Whoever gathers around your table, we know you are thankful for them. And at #local, we are thankful that there are so many amazing local businesses who will help put food on that table. So without further ado, let’s get to planning your dinner.

The Meat

Who says Thanksgiving has to be just about the turkey? In Sarnia-Lambton you can enjoy just about any protein you like from a local farm, and there is nothing we love more than seeing delicious meals cooked with locally raised meats.

If you are a traditionalist, there is still time to grab a turkey from Carver’s Natural Farms. But don’t delay! These organic, pasture-raised birds are sure to be delicious, and going fast! Once you fall in love with your dinner, consider pre-ordering next spring. We can’t mention Carvers without advising you to pick up some of their delicious heritage pork. Their pigs are forest-raised and butchered just down the road at Weiland Meats in Petrolia. Trust us, you want to add some to your next order.

Is your table a little too small for a whole turkey? Consider opting for the turkey’s smaller cousin, the chicken. With a chicken dinner, you can also save your oven for all those delicious sides and pies (the stuffing vs. mashed potato debate is strong around #local). Huron Farm currently has frozen chickens in stock, meaning it’s time to visit their website and place that order!

Perhaps poultry isn’t your favorite feast. Living in Sarnia-Lambton, you are in luck! Looking for beef? In addition to bulk orders, Dickenson Farms sells roasts and steaks from their pasture-raised cattle. Want something a little leaner but with lots of flavour? The Sides

Oh, the sides. Debatably the best part of any Thanksgiving feast. Carbs, veggies, sometimes some extra protein… these dishes work together to create the perfect Thanksgiving plate.

To start filling those side bowls, we recommend visiting your local farmers market. The season will be coming to a close, but don’t let that discourage you! Many items are just starting to hit their peak, and the tables are plentiful. Not sure which market fits your schedule? We include a breakdown of local markets in Freshen Up Your Kitchen.

If you can’t make it to a farmers market, you can always order some delicious fresh produce online from Sycamore Farms. Justin and Felicia Nicol are growing healthy and delicious food, and even offer select delivery days to Sarnia and St. Claire! And be sure to add some flavour to your dishes by picking up local herbs fresh or dry from Forest Glen Herb Farm

The Beverages

Whatever meat you decide on for dinner, you are going to want to pair it with the perfect beverage. Thankfully, Sarnia-Lambton has a plethora of places to pick up an excellent drink. No matter if you are looking for red or white, Alton Farms Estate Winery can find a wine to match your meal.

Not wine drinkers? No problem, Sarnia-Lambton has all kinds of beer to pair with your dinner. For some of our favourite beers, check out our blog for International Beer Day
