Hello, autumn!

It doesn’t feel that long ago we were discussing all the amazing ways to enjoy Sarnia-Lambton in the summer, and now we’re diving feet first into fall.

While some of us are a little reluctant to let go of summer, we know many have been eagerly awaiting that first chill in the air as an excuse to do all the wonderful things fall has to offer.

To help you get on your way to enjoying this crisp and comfy season, we’ve compiled a list of 20 things to do in Sarnia-Lambton in Autumn.

How many are making your bucket list?

  1. Roast Chestnuts. Don’t let the carols fool you, this can definitely be a fall activity. And if you are looking for some local nuts, look no further than Hendrikx Nut House in Plympton-Wyoming.
  2. Decorate your mantle. Fall has got colour for days! Spread a little autumn cheer around your home by decorating for the season. Visit Harbour Bay Clothing & Decor for seasonal decor ideas.
  3. Take a drive and enjoy some fall foliage. The Carolinian Ecosystem we live in provides some of the best views when it comes to autumn colours. Head on up Lakeshore Road, and take in the view!
  4. Test your skills at a Corn Maze. Korny Korners corn maze is fun for the whole family! Be sure to check out their other family activities like ring toss, and outdoor bowling.
  5. Bake a pie. Flakey pastry with filling - what more could you ask for! And if your pie fails, you can also grab a delicious handmade pie from Cassie’s Cottage
  6. Pick some apples. Take the family for a good ole’fashion apple picking. Twin Pines Orchards & Cider House offers apple picking, and the opportunity to pick up apple cider (for all ages!).
  7. Carve a pumpkin. Break out the steak knives and ladles and get to working on your pumpkin masterpieces!
  8. Go on a hayride. What fall day would be complete without a hayride. Zekveld’s Garden Market is offering hayrides <insert times>. You can also pick up all kinds of delicious local produce and pick your pumpkin to go with it!
  9. Enjoy a hot beverage. Perhaps you’re a fan of the PSL, perhaps the thought makes you shiver! Either way, fall is the time when warm beverages are back on the menu so stop by Coffee Lodge or Blackwater Coffee for an old faithful or new favourite!
  10. Host a game night. Now that socializing is back on the agenda, why not plan a game night with some friends at District Beta! Board games are fun, but we hear Virtual Reality takes competition to a whole new level!
  11. Plant fall flowers. Just because the weather is changing doesn’t mean we have to give up on our gardens. Visit DeGroot’s Nursery or Praill’s Greenhouse to grab some fall favourites like mums. This is also the perfect time to plant your spring bulbs. Work hard now and enjoy their beauty in 6 months!
  12. Head to the farmers market. Fall is still a plentiful time at the market. Be sure to visit your farmers and help their season go out with a bang!
  13. Go for a hike. There are trails galore in Sarnia-Lambton! The Lambton Shores Nature Trails is a non-profit organization that maintains and promotes the beautiful trails found in Lambton Shores. Visit their website for hiking ideas, and consider competing in their challenge for pretty sweet badge!
  14. Burn a fall candle. Candles are the perfect fall decor! Consider shopping local candle markers, we have so many to choose from! Unsure where to start? Check out Shores Collective, Porch Light Candle Co., or adelaide candle co.
  15. Make a turkey dinner. We love turkey so much, it doesn’t even have to be for thanksgiving! There is still time to order a locally raised, organic turkey from Carver’s Natural Farms
  16. Go horseback riding. Take in the beautiful scenery from a different vantage point with horse back riding. Contact All About Horses in Thedford to book your next session.
  17. Host a chili cook-off. It’s time to see who is really in charge of the cookout! Challenge friends and family, assign some judges, grab all the bowls you can find and get to cooking!
  18. Grab a puzzle. Chilly days, warm fires, and gathering around with friends - sounds like fun to us! Add a puzzle to that equation and it’s a good way to spend a rainy fall day. In addition to great books, The Book Keeper also carries a variety of puzzles for any skill level.
  19. Purchase pottery. Take your home cup game to a new level by picking up a locally made mug! Lori Kennedy from Pawsitive Pottery creates beautiful pieces, so you can drink from a work of art!
  20. Host a movie night. Enjoy one of the many fall classics with family and friends (we recommend Hocus Pocus or A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving). Take movie night to the next level by serving up some sweet vintage treats from Gramma’s Candy Store
